More About the Tour

  • Our tour program starts every hour from 10:00 am until the evening, depending on your chosen visit time. We will pick you up from your hotel's security gate and take you to the hamam. We collaborate with several baths, so we can choose one close to your hotel.
  • Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the welcoming hamam staff. The administrator will guide you to the dressing room, where you will change. You will be given a key to a locker for your personal belongings, as well as a towel or sheet and special footwear. You will then be informed about the procedures included in the tour price and any additional services available.
  • Your first visit will be to the sauna, where your time is unlimited. You will warm up, relax, and prepare for the next treatments.
  • The next stage is the steam bath, where you will also have unlimited time. The dense, enveloping steam will relax and warm every inch of your body, and your skin's pores will open, allowing all toxins and impurities to be expelled through sweat.
  • You will then be invited for a peeling session with a special Kese glove, which will last 10 minutes. This procedure will cleanse your skin of dead and hardened particles.
  • After peeling, the most pleasant procedure begins – a 10-minute massage with whipped, fluffy foam.
  • Next is a classic massage with natural oils, lasting 20 minutes. The essential oils have a beneficial effect on the skin, penetrating deeply to nourish and hydrate it. After this procedure, your skin will become more elastic, gaining a radiant and healthy appearance.

About the Attractions

TURKISH BATH

  • The hamam is a public Turkish bath, enjoyed by both locals and tourists who seek a full relaxation experience and traditional treatments that help maintain health, beauty, and youth. It’s also a great way to learn more about Turkey's culture, history, and the daily lives of its people.

How the Excursion Proceeds

  • Upon arrival, guests are greeted and guided to the changing room, where they will receive a bracelet with a locker key, slippers, and a cotton sheet or towel. Personal belongings can be stored in the locker.
  • Nudity is completely unacceptable in an Eastern bath. Therefore, women, even in swimsuits , can wrap themselves in a sheet, and men can wrap a towel around their waists.
  • So, ahead of you are a couple of hours of bliss and relaxation. In the hamam, guests do not wash themselves; trust the experienced hands of the bath attendant who will carry out all the traditional Turkish bath procedures in the correct sequence.
  • The first room guests visit is the steam room. The steam room traditionally has very high humidity, close to 100%, and the air temperature ranges from +35°C to +55°C. The dense steam envelops your entire body, relaxing muscles, soothing the nervous system, and opening every pore on your skin. After sweating well, harmful toxins and impurities leave your body. You will feel how fatigue recedes, replaced by a feeling of lightness and tranquility. It is said that the hamam cleanses not only the body but also the soul.
  • In the center of the steam room is a warm marble stone, sometimes called the "belly stone." Why? Because to properly warm not only the muscles but also the internal organs, it is recommended to lie on the stone on your stomach.
  • After your body and skin are well steamed, the bath attendant will proceed to the next procedure – cleansing.
  • Body peeling is performed with a special Turkish mitt called a kese.
  • The kese mitt is made from natural materials such as silk threads, loofah, coarse sheep or camel hair. It is shaped like a small bag that fits over the hand, and before it touches water, it feels quite pleasant to the touch. After getting wet, the texture of the mitt becomes rougher. It effectively removes rough, calloused, and dead skin areas.
  • The next stage is more pleasant – massages: foam and natural oils.
  • Many compare the foam massage to a true heavenly delight. This massage relaxes the body and moisturizes the skin.
  • The bath attendant dissolves olive soap shavings in hot water and dips a special cotton bag, called kopuk torbasi, into the solution, whipping up foam. Then, they squeeze a cloud of foam from the bag onto the guest's body. With deft movements, the bath attendant massages the entire body, paying attention to each muscle.
  • The next stage is nourishing and moisturizing the skin with natural essential oils. After this procedure, your skin will become firm and radiant.
  • Finally, all guests are taken to the relaxation room, where they can enjoy delicious herbal tea.

When to Visit the Hamam?

  • Cosmetologists recommend visiting the hamam in the early days of your vacation, and it makes sense.
  • Firstly, traditional procedures will prepare your skin for sunbathing. A clean and smooth skin will tan more evenly, beautifully, and will be more long-lasting.
  • Secondly, the hamam is not just hygiene and spa treatments. In the Turkish bath, it is customary to relax, drink tea, and socialize, which is exactly what you need after a flight.
  • We recommend not limiting yourself to just the first days of your vacation! Visit the Turkish bath any day you want. This tour won't take much time, just a couple of hours, and the positive emotions, impressions, and good feeling will remind you of a pleasant time for a long time.

The History of the Hamam

  • The history of the Turkish bath dates back to ancient times. Roman baths are considered the forerunners of the hamam.
  • In ancient times, people could spend almost an entire day in the baths, celebrating events, simply relaxing, women engaging in various cosmetic procedures, and men discussing important, sometimes fateful issues and political problems.
  • During the Byzantine Empire, a medic named Galen, who lived and worked in the city of Pergamum (now the ruins located in modern-day Turkey), believed that visiting the baths positively affected health and had a healing effect.
  • The Arabs adopted the idea of Roman baths, slightly modifying it. In their version, steam heating was combined with pouring cool water, instead of immersing in a water container, which they considered equivalent to bathing in one's own dirt.
  • In Arabic, hamam means "distributor of warmth."

Architecture of the Buildings

  • The hamam has significant differences from other steam baths, primarily in the architecture of the building and the interior design of the rooms.
  • In the construction and interior decoration of a building intended for a hamam, wood is never used, only water-resistant materials such as stone, tiles, etc.
  • Classic Eastern bath buildings consist of several spacious, well-lit rooms, with walls invariably decorated with intricate mosaics and ornaments. The ceilings are high and domed, reaching heights of 3 to 5 meters.
  • Interestingly, in the steam room, the floor, walls, benches, and marble slab are heated. Only the ceiling remains cold, where condensation accumulates and drips down the walls.
  • Traditionally, the hamam is built in the shape of an open hand, with five rooms around the main room, each serving different functions and with varying air temperatures.
  • Modern hamam buildings usually consist of a changing room, a steam room with a central marble slab, and a relaxation room.
  • The relaxation room may include comfortable sofas and chairs, a pool, and a jacuzzi.
  • All bath rooms are heated by a single boiler. Dense steam seeps through the walls through special openings.

Essential Hamam Accessories

  • Kese Mitt: A Turkish scrub mitt made from natural materials of animal or plant origin. The mitt is used for peeling after the body is steamed.
  • Pestemal: A light cotton or linen towel wrapped around the body. It absorbs moisture well and is hardly noticeable on the body. Despite the variety of colors, the classic is red and blue checkered.
  • Natural Olive Soap Sabun: Handmade soap that moisturizes the skin perfectly. It is used after the peeling procedure. Olive soap does not irritate the skin and is suitable for washing both the body and hair. Often, other components, but always of plant origin, are added to the soap to enhance its properties.
  • Cotton Bag for Whipping Foam - Kopuk Torbasi.
